Teaching & Learning
We are passionate about teaching and learning at Holmer Green Senior School. We continue to push our staff to be the best they can be, both in terms of subject knowledge, but also in the art of teaching and learning. We want students to become independent, reflective learners who study a broad and rich curriculum. We want students to think, act and speak as subject specialists in all of their subjects and be well prepared to be very successful in their life after HGSS.
We invest heavily in Continuing Professional Development opportunities for teachers at HGSS as we believe every HGSS student has the right to be taught by the best. These opportunities include regular teaching and learning clinics, weekly coaching, team teaching and bespoke CPD opportunities such as a Professional Studies programme for our beginning teachers. Our teachers hold high expectations for all of our students and year on year we see excellent results. Many of our teachers are involved in supporting other schools and examining. We are an outward facing school, restless in our search to continue to improve.
Students are assessed, both formally and informally, and this information is used by teachers to direct their teaching. Parents receive regular updates about their child's progress.
If you would like to discuss any aspects of teaching, learning, curriculum and assessment at HGSS please contact Ms S Lary, Deputy Headteacher, using larys@holmer.org.uk.
