Science at HGSS is an incredibly successful and diverse subject area with lessons being delivered by eight enthusiastic, creative, and hardworking members of staff who all have the following common aims for the delivery of the subject from Year 7-13:
Science at HGSS should allow all students to…
- Understand and engage in current scientific affairs.
- Think outside the box and have an enquiring mind.
- Develop ideas using scientific methods and processes.
- Develop a sense of awe and wonder.
- Apply scientific knowledge to everyday situations.
In year 7 and 8 students are taught all three sciences using a topic based system. All students will have the opportunity to complete a range of practical investigations in order to develop their ideas using scientific methods and processes.
In year 9 students will begin working towards either two or three GCSEs in Science which will be taken at the end of year 11. They will begin to develop a lab book of their practical discoveries and they will continue to explore the key concepts introduced in year 7 and 8.
In year 12 and 13 students will have the ability to continue further study into Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Applied Science- this is when it really gets interesting!
All students will also have the opportunity to take part in a range of ICT activities and outdoor Science learning.
“The important thing is to not stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvellous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.” Albert Einstein
Because Science is EVERYTHING!
